Psychopathy

Good Psychiatric Management Principles for Psychopathy:

  • Teach the patient to consider the rewards associated with prosocial behavior;
  • Assess for HI/SI as needed (use L-RAMP);
  • Encourage activities that engage the patient with simple emotions;
  • Encourage adherence to sleep hygiene and medication for comorbid mood or psychotic disorders;
  • Encourage the setting of short-term goals: if unsuccessful for weekly goals, try daily or hourly;
  • Use MI to help patient figure out goals and values, also see relevant DBT® worksheets (Emotion Regulation Handout 18 and Worksheet 11 in the Revised Edition)
